Minister Mohamud Beenebene leads efforts to strengthen Somalia’s drought response

The Minister of Planning, Investment, and Economic Development, Mohamud Beenebene, today chaired a high-level meeting with the Somali Disaster Management Agency to accelerate and strengthen the national drought response. The session focused on coordinating urgent actions to assist communities most severely affected by the ongoing drought across Somalia.
During the meeting, SoDMA provided an updated briefing on the current situation, highlighting the thousands of families struggling with limited access to water, food, and basic services. Minister Beenebene emphasized the critical role of his ministry in leading coordination efforts to ensure a timely, unified, and efficient humanitarian response.
Minister Beenebene called on Somali scholars, business leaders, civil society organizations, and the diaspora community to unite in supporting affected families during this challenging period. “This is a moment that requires shared responsibility,” he said, stressing the importance of collaboration across all sectors to protect lives and livelihoods.
